The TL;DR (Too Long; Didn't Read) Version:

The Linus Ember E6100 stands out as an exceptional e-bike with its smooth Shimano Steps E6100 motor, stylish design blending classic and modern elements, and a comfortable ergonomic setup for long rides. The intuitive display and controls enhance the riding experience, making it user-friendly for both new and experienced cyclists. However, its heavier weight can be cumbersome in manual mode, the higher price point might deter budget-conscious buyers, and additional security features would be a welcome improvement for such a premium bike.

Design and Build Quality

The Linus Ember E6100 presents an aesthetic that is both classic and contemporary. Its frame, crafted from lightweight yet durable materials, ensures a smooth ride with a timeless look. The design pays homage to traditional bikes, while integrating modern e-bike technology seamlessly. It's not just about looks; the build quality here ensures reliability and longevity.

Frame Geometry

The frame geometry of the Ember E6100 is meticulously designed to provide a comfortable riding position. Whether cruising through city streets or taking on longer commutes, the ergonomics of this bike cater to a relaxed yet efficient biking experience.

Material and Durability

Constructed with high-grade aluminum, the Ember E6100 strikes a perfect balance between being lightweight and sturdy. This material choice contributes to the bike's resilience against wear and tear, making it a reliable companion for everyday use.

The Shimano Steps E6100 motor blends in so well you might not even notice it at first glance.

The Heart of the Bike: Shimano Steps E6100 Motor

At the core of the Linus Ember E6100 is the Shimano Steps E6100 motor. This power unit is a marvel of e-bike technology, offering smooth, natural pedal assistance that feels intuitive and responsive.

Power and Performance

The Shimano Steps E6100 motor delivers a peak power output that transforms your ride. It provides enough oomph to tackle steep hills effortlessly, making the bike versatile for various terrains. The power delivery is smooth, avoiding the jerky acceleration seen in some e-bikes.

Effortless Hill Climbing

One of the standout features of this motor is its ability to conquer steep inclines with ease. Whether you're facing a challenging hill on your commute or exploring hilly terrain on a weekend adventure, the E6100 motor provides consistent and reliable power to help you ascend with minimal effort. This feature is particularly beneficial for riders who may not have the physical conditioning or desire to tackle steep hills unassisted.

Seamless Integration with Bike Features

The integration of the motor with the bike's overall design is seamless. It doesn't interfere with the bike's aesthetics or ergonomics. Moreover, the placement and operation of the motor are designed to maintain the bike's balance and handling characteristics, ensuring that the ride quality is not compromised by the addition of electric assistance.

Battery Life and Charging

Equipped with a long-lasting battery, the Ember E6100 ensures you can cover significant distances on a single charge. The charging process is straightforward and efficient, meaning less downtime and more time enjoying your ride.

Riding Experience

The true test of any bike is how it feels to ride. The Linus Ember E6100 excels in providing a riding experience that is both exhilarating and comfortable.

Handling and Control

The bike handles like a dream, with precise steering and a stable ride. Whether navigating tight city corners or cruising on open roads, the Ember E6100 offers a sense of control that breeds confidence in the rider.

Precision Steering

The precision steering of the Ember E6100 is a standout feature, allowing for accurate and responsive maneuvers. This precision is particularly beneficial in urban environments, where navigating through traffic, around obstacles, or making tight turns is part of the daily ride. The bike's steering is tuned to offer just the right balance between responsiveness and stability, ensuring that even less experienced riders can handle it with ease.

Stability at Various Speeds

Stability is crucial, especially at higher speeds or when carrying loads. The Ember E6100 maintains a steady and secure feel, irrespective of speed. This stability is achieved through a well-thought-out frame geometry and a low center of gravity, which provides a grounded and confident riding experience. Whether you're cruising at a leisurely pace or picking up speed on a downhill stretch, the bike remains stable and predictable.

Comfort and Ergonomics

Comfort is paramount, especially for longer rides. The Ember E6100's seat and handlebar setup are designed to reduce strain, allowing for a more enjoyable ride. The ergonomic design ensures that every journey, no matter the distance, is a pleasure.

Seat Design and Quality

The Ember E6100 features a seat that's been crafted with both comfort and durability in mind. The cushioning is optimized to provide a soft, supportive ride, reducing the impact and strain on your body. This attention to seat design is crucial for longer rides, where discomfort can significantly diminish the enjoyment of cycling. The materials used for the seat are also weather-resistant and durable, ensuring that the seat maintains its comfort and shape over time.

Handlebar Configuration

In addition to the seat, the handlebar configuration plays a significant role in rider comfort. The handlebars are positioned to encourage an upright riding posture, reducing strain on the back, neck, and shoulders. This ergonomic positioning is ideal for both leisurely rides and daily commutes, as it allows the rider to maintain a comfortable position without sacrificing visibility or control.

Advanced Features

Display and Controls

The Linus Ember E6100 is equipped with an intuitive display that provides all the necessary information at a glance. The controls are easy to understand and use, making the transition to an e-bike smooth for beginners.

User-Friendly Interface for All Riders

The user interface of the display is intuitive, making it easy for both beginners and experienced riders to understand and use. The clear icons and simple menus ensure that accessing and changing settings is straightforward, removing any intimidation factor that might come with using an advanced e-bike.

Safety and Lighting

Safety is a key concern, and the Ember E6100 addresses this with integrated lighting and reflective elements. These features enhance visibility in various lighting conditions, ensuring a safer ride.

Practical Aspects

Rack and Storage Solutions

The Linus Ember E6100 goes beyond just being an efficient e-bike; it also excels in practicality, thanks in large part to its well-designed rack system. This feature is key for riders who need their bike to be more than just a means of transportation, but also a reliable tool for carrying various items, be it for daily commutes, grocery runs, or weekend adventures.

Versatility

The Linus Ember E6100 is a versatile machine. It's as suited for a quick grocery run as it is for a leisurely ride along the beach. This versatility makes it an excellent choice for a wide range of users.

Maintenance and Upkeep

Maintenance is straightforward, thanks to the quality of components used. Regular checks and basic care are all that's needed to keep the Ember E6100 in top condition.

As our comprehensive review of the Linus Ember E6100 concludes, it becomes evident that this e-bike is not just a means of transportation, but a testament to how innovation can elevate the cycling experience. Our Review of the Heybike Race Max E-Bike

Heybike's Race Max Electric Bike caught my eye for several reasons. It's not every day you find an e-bike that promises both style and substance without breaking the bank. So, I decided to take it for a spin and here's what I found

Race Max Performance

Power and Motor

The Race Max is equipped with a 500W high-speed brushless motor, ensuring that I had more than enough power for my daily commute. Whether I was cruising on flat terrain or tackling hills and bumpy roads, the rear motor provided a noticeable boost to my ride.

The motor's responsiveness and power delivery were impressive, seamlessly transitioning between different levels of assistance based on my pedaling. It made uphill climbs feel almost effortless and allowed for a swift, exhilarating ride on open stretches. This robust motor performance not only enhanced my commute but also expanded the bike's utility for longer rides and more challenging terrains, affirming its versatility as an all-around electric bike.

Battery and Range

One of the standout features of the Heybike Race Max is its 48V 12.5Ah battery. This completely removable battery is a highlight, offering ease of transport and charging. Throughout my experience, the range was impressive – covering up to 40 miles on a single charge.

This capacity is more than sufficient for daily commutes and even extended city explorations. Its versatility is further enhanced by the portability of the battery, which means you can charge it anywhere, whether at home or in the office, adding a layer of convenience to your daily routine or adventurous escapades.

Braking System

Safety is a big concern for me, especially when commuting in wet weather. The dual-disc brake system on the Race Max provides powerful and progressive braking, which I found to be more effective and responsive than traditional rim brakes. The reliability and quick response of this braking system greatly enhanced my confidence while riding, especially on slippery roads or during sudden stops.

This feature is a crucial aspect of the Race Max, ensuring a safer riding experience in various weather conditions and terrains. The robust brakes contribute significantly to the overall safety and handling of the bike, making it a dependable choice for daily commuting and leisure rides.

Comfort and Utility

Frame and Weight

The lightweight geometry frame of the Race Max, weighing less than 52.9 lbs, is a boon for city riders. Its sturdy build and high-step style offer a blend of excitement and utility, which is a step above your average bike. The manageable weight makes it easier to maneuver in urban environments and transport when needed, without compromising on durability.

This combination of lightness and strength in the frame is ideal for those who value agility and reliability in their ride. The high-step design, while giving the bike a distinct look, also contributes to its overall robustness and ride quality.

Tires and Durability

The 27.5” puncture-resistant tires are a thoughtful addition, especially for someone like me who often rides on varied terrains. This feature, along with the dual lights and motor inhibitors in the brakes, made my commuting experience steadier and more reliable.

Practicality and Everyday Use

Commuting Experience

Every day with the Race Max was a new adventure. Its efficient motor and reliable battery made my commutes both exciting and effortless. The significant reduction in travel time compared to a regular bike was immediately noticeable, transforming my daily routine into something I looked forward to.

The pedal assist feature, in particular, was a standout, providing just the right amount of support on days when I wasn't feeling up to a full workout. This feature made my rides smoother and less tiring, especially on longer commutes, allowing me to arrive at my destination feeling refreshed and energized.

Handling and Maneuverability

Despite its power, the Race Max is surprisingly easy to handle. Its light frame and responsive gear system allowed me to navigate through city traffic with ease. I found myself zipping through narrow lanes and crowded streets without any hassle. The bike's agility is a true asset in an urban environment, where quick turns and sudden stops are part of the daily commute.

The stability it provides, even at higher speeds, is commendable, giving a sense of security and control. Its maneuverability is not just confined to cityscapes; on open roads or park paths, the bike handles beautifully, making every ride, regardless of the terrain, a smooth and enjoyable experience.

User Experience

Assembly and Setup

The bike arrived mostly assembled, and the final setup was a breeze. It took me less than an hour to get everything ready, and the instructions were clear and straightforward. For someone who isn't particularly handy, this was a big plus.

Controls and Interface

The Race Max's controls are intuitive and easy to master. The simplicity of the design is commendable, allowing even novice riders to quickly become comfortable with the various settings and adjustments. The LCD display, clear and well-organized, provides all the necessary information at a glance, including speed, battery level, and distance traveled.

This user-friendly interface enhances the riding experience by minimizing distractions and making it easy to monitor the bike's performance. The ergonomic placement of the controls contributes to a seamless and enjoyable ride, allowing riders to focus more on the journey and less on operating the bike.

Maintenance and Durability

Long-Term Use

Over the weeks, I found the Race Max to be quite durable. The frame and components held up well, even with regular use. The puncture-resistant tires were a lifesaver, especially on routes with rough patches. The bike's resilience to daily wear and tear was impressive, maintaining its performance and appearance despite constant use.

Additionally, the battery life remained consistent, showing no signs of significant degradation. This consistency in performance reassured me of the bike's reliability for long-term use. It's clear that the Race Max is built to last, making it a wise investment for anyone looking for a durable and reliable electric bike.

Maintenance Requirements

As with any bike, regular maintenance is key. However, I found that the Race Max required relatively low upkeep. The removable battery was easy to charge, and the motor and brakes needed minimal attention to keep them in top condition.

Lifestyle Fit

Versatility

The Race Max is versatile enough to suit a variety of users. Whether you're a daily commuter, a weekend adventurer, or someone looking for a more sustainable mode of transport, this e-bike fits the bill. Its powerful motor and extended range make it suitable for both city streets and rural trails. This adaptability is a key strength, as it caters to different riding preferences and needs.

From navigating bustling urban environments to exploring serene countryside paths, the Race Max demonstrates remarkable flexibility. Its design and features accommodate a wide range of cycling experiences, making it an ideal choice for riders seeking both functionality and fun in their cycling adventures.

Environmental Impact

As an electric bike, the Race Max offers a greener alternative to conventional modes of transport. By choosing this e-bike, I felt good about reducing my carbon footprint and contributing to a more sustainable future.

Final Thoughts

Overall Satisfaction

The Heybike Race Max exceeded my expectations in many ways. It combines style, power, and practicality in a package that's hard to beat. Its performance, ease of use, and safety features make it an excellent choice for a wide range of cyclists.

The seamless integration of its advanced features with user-friendly design elements significantly enhances the overall riding experience. Its reliability in various conditions, coupled with its aesthetic appeal, contributes to a high level of satisfaction. The Race Max stands out as a well-rounded e-bike, successfully balancing the demands of performance, comfort, and style, which is a testament to its thoughtful design and engineering.

Recommendation

If you're in the market for an electric bike that delivers on its promises, the Heybike Race Max is definitely worth considering. It's a reliable, stylish, and environmentally friendly option that offers great value for its price.

This e-bike stands out for its combination of high-quality components, impressive performance, and user-friendly features. It caters well to both seasoned cyclists and those new to electric bikes, making it a versatile choice for various needs and preferences. The Race Max is a commendable blend of innovation and practicality, positioning it as a top contender in the e-bike market.

Our Review of the Euy F7 Step Thru Electric Bike

Hello, fellow bike enthusiasts! Today, I'm super excited to share my experience with the Euy F7 Step Thru Electric Bike. Imagine this: you’re looking for a bike that feels like it’s been tailor-made for easy cruising and comfort, and then, bam! You come across the Euy F7. Let me walk you through why this bike caught my eye and how it fared on the bustling city streets and the serene countryside paths.

Performance and Comfort - The Ride of Your Life

Power-packed Performance

Here’s where the Euy F7 really shines. The 750W motor, peaking at 1000W, is like having a silent, powerful ally at your back. Hills? What hills? This bike laughs in the face of steep inclines. I was zipping around, feeling like a superhero with a secret power source. Plus, the 48V 16Ah battery is a champ. I went for long rides without the constant worry of running out of juice.

Comfort is King

Comfort is where the Euy F7 steps up its game. The fat tires are not just for show; they’re like plush, rolling cushions that smooth out bumps and jolts. Riding through rocky paths felt surprisingly gentle. And for someone who appreciates not feeling sore after a ride, this was a huge plus.

The Daily Experience - Living with the Euy F7

Commuting Made Fun

Using the Euy F7 for daily commutes turned mundane trips into mini-adventures. It's fast, fun, and reliable. Parking woes? Forget about them. I just zipped through traffic, often reaching my destination quicker than my car-bound friends.

Leisure Rides and Adventures

Weekends became something to look forward to. I explored trails and paths I wouldn't have considered before. The bike's versatility in handling different terrains was impressive. It was like having multiple bikes in one.

A Closer Look at the Features

It's All in the Details

The Euy F7 isn’t just about its motor and tires. The attention to detail is impressive. The LCD display is like your personal command center - easy to read and informative. It shows your speed, battery life, and even the pedal assist level. And speaking of pedal assist, it's like having a range of gears at your fingertips. Whether you want a light workout or just want to cruise, there’s a setting for every mood.

Safety Features

Safety is a big deal, especially on city streets. The integrated lights on the Euy F7 are bright and make you visible. The brakes are responsive, giving you confidence in stop-and-go traffic. It’s like Euy thought of everything to make your ride safe and enjoyable.

The Quirks and Perks

Quirks

Every bike has its quirks, and the Euy F7 is no exception. For instance, the turning radius is something to get used to. It’s not a deal-breaker, but tight turns require a bit of planning. Also, while the bike is sturdy, some of the fittings like the fender and rack could be more robust. It’s nothing a little tightening can’t fix, but worth mentioning.

Perks

There are some delightful perks with the F7. The removable battery is a lifesaver. Charge it anywhere - no need for a garage set-up. Also, the bike's aesthetics are a head-turner. You'll get plenty of “nice bike” comments, which never gets old!

Long-Term Love Affair - Durability and Maintenance

Built to Last

After several months of use, the Euy F7 still feels solid. The frame is sturdy, and the components, like the motor and battery, are reliable. It’s a bike built for the long haul, assuming you take good care of it.

Keeping It in Top Shape

Maintenance is key. Regular checks and tune-ups are essential, especially if you’re using it daily. Keeping the chain clean, checking the tire pressure, and ensuring the brakes are in good condition will go a long way in maintaining its performance.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  1. Powerful Motor: The 750W motor makes you feel unstoppable, handling hills and long distances with ease.
  2. Supreme Comfort: Those fat tires aren’t just for looks; they make for a smooth, comfortable ride.
  3. Battery Life: The long-lasting battery means fewer charges and more riding.
  4. Easy Access Design: The step-thru frame is a game-changer for ease of use.

Cons:

  1. Weight: It’s a bit on the heavier side, so if you need to carry it up stairs, it’s a mini workout.
  2. Size: If you’re short on storage space, its size can be a bit of a challenge.
  3. Price: While it offers great value, the initial investment might be a consideration for some.

Conclusion - Is the Euy F7 Right for You?

The Euy F7 Step Thru Electric Bike is more than just a mode of transportation; it’s an experience. It combines power, comfort, and style in a package that’s hard to resist. Yes, it has a few quirks, but they’re overshadowed by its many strengths.

Who is it for?

If you're someone who values comfort, power, and versatility in a bike, the F7 is a fantastic choice. It’s perfect for urban commuters, weekend adventurers, or anyone who wants to add a bit of joy to their daily travels.

Final Thoughts

In the end, the Euy F7 is a bike that brings a smile to your face every time you ride it. It’s an investment in your happiness and health. And in my book, that’s always a good investment.

Our Review of the Camelbak M.U.L.E. Hydration Backpack

For just about any type of exercise, the brand name Camelbak is synonymous with hydration packs. Mountain biking is no exception. The Camelbak MULE is as tried-and-true as any hydration pack on the market, despite the fact that some designs come and go. It was one of the first hydration packs on the market, and it's still one of the most popular. It was also among the first mountain bike hydration packs to be adopted.

A Well Designed Backpack for Long Distance Rides

The Camelbak MULE's storage compartments are divided into three distinct sections. On the face of the bag is a smaller pocket that is for times when you need your phone in a hurry. Looking at the top portion of the MULE, there is a tiny section for other types of gadgets that is waterproof and is secured by a zipper. This spot is perfect for anyone who wishes to utilize a phone along with wired headphones. The exterior has small leather trim, as well as a smaller patch of plastic on each side. The bottom of the bag is designed with four D-rings for attaching accessories. Inside, there are two sections divided by a zipper in the shape of a U that makes it simple to get things in and out.

This bag's name, as well as its description, informs us that it can contain water up to 100 oz. The Crux reservoir's handle and the big mouth make filling it a breeze. The bladder is hung in a separate compartment to minimize bunching. You can fit about three liters in the reservoir, which is only about a quarter of the pack's full size.  The mouthpiece (which Camelbak calls the "Big Bite") is very efficient and has never made me feel like I needed to work hard to take a drink. The locking function also keeps water from leaking out.

A Comfortable Pack

The MULE's design is well-tested and solid, although it isn't particularly innovative. The pack's minimal design and form, combined with its molded foam back panel, allow you to cinch it close against you, which is crucial if you are on a rough ride where you don't want the pack bouncing and swaying around behind you. The MULE's straps have been engineered to be simple to cinch up and release, so you may tighten them on the run as your fit grows looser with more water consumption. I rode my bike for a few hours in the scorching sun over fields and trails, and I was at ease with the MULe on my back, with less sweat dripping down me than in past excursions with similar backpacks. The straps, on the other hand, do not have the greatest padding. The harness, like its predecessors, is extremely functional. It's made of the same material as the packed bag and is packed with pockets for storage. They are padded well enough to protect your back while you're carrying a lot of weight in them, but some people may want more cushioning in their hydration pack.

The Camelbak MULE's ventilation, while not as good as other bicycle hydration packs we tested, is superior to previous versions. The rear panel is made up of CamelBak's system that is called Air Direct, comprised of mesh fabric draped over elevated ridges made of foam.

The M.U.L.E. is Easy to Clean

It is not difficult to clean, but cleaning the hydration bladder takes longer. The zipper access is simple, but you must dig into the bottom of the bladder compartment to find the fast-release button that controls the drinking hose. We were able to get good (but not necessarily simple) access to the interior after removing the bladder. Water and detergent may cause problems, particularly with older models. However, all of these bladders can be cleaned without difficulty if you follow the proper methods best results. They're also simpler to clean because they have a full opening capacity. When compared with wider-mouth designs, the Crux bladder provides adequate but not exceptional access.

Keeps Hydration the Primary Focus

There are many items of the MULE that set it apart as a hydration pack. If you compare other normal water bottles you may use for exercise, the MULE can hold up to three of those in its bladder. — enough for any person's full day, so long as you're not planning on racing your whole ride. The bladder is held in place by a storage pouch that features stints that are built-in, such as rigid plastic pieces, separating the pack and the bladder and making it simple to remove and replace.

Camelbak's Magnetic Tube Trap is a great way to keep your hose in place while exercising rapidly. Additionally, the CRUX reservoir's mouthpiece has been updated to provide greater assurance in preventing water drip.

A Minor Con of the M.U.L.E.

For hikers and bikers that want a quick-access pocket for their phone (or any other gadget), this bag is poor. While the primary exterior shove pocket is fantastic and expandable, it's still a little too far for me to reach anything without unlatching the straps. In the end, it's not a huge issue, but you may need to grab your phone to capture a video of animals in action at times. The aforementioned hip belt pockets, if they were big enough for today's bulkier phones, would also assist with this!

Conclusion

The Camelbak M.U.L.E is a fantastic bag for carrying a lot of gear and fluid while remaining small. It's strong, safe, and well-planned. The Camelbak M.U.L.E. is a robust, reliable design that will not let you down if you're riding long distances to the middle of nowhere with gear to cover a wide variety of possibilities.

Theis a small-framed pack that has been designed with mountain biking in mind, yet it would make an excellent companion for any trip outdoors for those who wish to go light but still be prepared for anything. The cost of top-quality equipment might seem to be prohibitive, but the MULE will serve you well as a single pack that can fulfill whatever your plans are outdoors because it is so versatile and adaptable.

This hydration pack also comes with a well-designed mouthpiece so you can access your drink easily and hassle-free.

Some Of the Features of the Molle Hydration Pack

Comfort

The Marchway Tactical Molle Hydration Pack is made to fit you well. It is comfortable to wear for a long time. The straps are very wide, so they won't hurt you. Most products have only two adjustable straps for comfort, but this product has three to help reduce pain in your back. The straps on this backpack are easy to adjust. They also have a quick-release buckle which means you can change the strap length whenever you want.

The mouthpiece is comfortable and made of soft material for your convenience and safety. It allows you to draw water easily and smoothly, and it wastes none while drinking.

Durability

This Molle Hydration Pack is safe because its plastic bladder container is designed with good material that does not leak easily. Most products' plastic materials are very fragile, but this one's not! It has a strong construction that will last for several years without any signs of wear or tear.

Security

This product comes with a whistle. You can use it when you need help, and other people will know where you are. However, if you want to speed up your adventure, just blow the whistle, and people will get out of your way.

Performance

The main feature in the Marchway Tactical Molle Hydration Pack is its heat-retaining technology which makes it much easier to manage when it's hot. It uses aluminum alloy material, so it will keep you cool while you cycle during hot weather periods. You can also always drink water from this product easily, thanks to its well-designed mouthpiece. The bladder is made out of non-toxic material.

Size

This Molle is made for mountain biking, so it is very small and lightweight. This allows you to ride longer without getting tired. It also means that it won't get in the way of your bike if you want to go off-road.

Style

This hydration pack looks casual. It will not show up in photos, so you do not have to worry about looking bad when the picture gets posted on social media accounts for others to see. This is also one of the reasons why this product is ideal for both men and women because it does not look like something only girls would wear. You can use it during road trips or other adventure activities without feeling embarrassed by your backpack's style.

Functionality

The Marchway Tactical Molle Hydration Pack has three storage compartments. The first one is for storing tools. The second holds your water bladder, and the third holds anything else you need to take with you on your adventure ride. This makes it very functional and practical for bike riding.

PROS

  • The hydration pack is made of lightweight aluminum alloy, so it is sturdy but not heavy.
  • It has a safety whistle so you can alert other people around you if you need help.
  • This product comes with an ergonomic design that keeps your back cool during hot weather rides. The straps are also well padded, so the backpack doesn't hurt your shoulder if you wear it for a long time.

    Soma Pescadero Endurance Road Bike

Photos from the Soma Pescadero webpage.

Two factors stood out immediately to us from the first day we heard about Soma's design of the Pescadero endurance road frame: it allows for wider tires up to 38c (up from standard endurance frames that usually use 28c tires), and the choice to go to caliber brakes instead of disc.

I jokingly said to the others that this was a "revolutionary" design change. Of course, that was a bit tongue in cheek, but when everyone is focused solely on disc brakes, for Soma to go this route, it is not only a refreshing change, it makes complete sense for what they are trying to achieve. They ask,

"…what about cyclists who wants the benefits of wider road tires, but want the clean, classic look of a road caliper brakes (i.e. rim brakes) or just prefer how easy they are to adjust and maintain? The Pescadero is for these souls in mind."

    What's this? Bigger tires?

What about the change to the wider tires? While you can still use 28c tires with the Pescadero, the wider tires can provide better traction for the rougher roads that you may want to traverse. Further, you should find that road vibration is not as noticeable. While you can use the Pescadero on gravel and dirt, it's not recommended that you think of it being a true gravel warrior.

How does it operate in the real world? It has the capacity for frame bags, bar packs, and seat bags. With weight on the front end, I normally find bikes tend to want to wander (especially downhill), but the Pescadero does quite well and feels comfortable even at higher speeds.

Definitely fits as an "Endurance Road Bike"

As for it being an endurance road bike, I would say that the Pescadero is a great bike for this purpose. Not being blessed with much in the way of a natural cushion, I found during a 20k ride that the vibration didn't translate through the seat post like other bikes. Having the wider tires also helped with this aspect. Although I didn't add a bag on the back end (opting for my normal backpack instead), I did use the aforementioned front to hold other items for testing purposes, which over the length of the ride, caused no issues.

One last item of note with the Pescadero is your attire. I was fully garbed in biking gear for my ride, but I could have as easily been in slacks and a sweater without looking out of place. While it is an endurance bike, if you have daily commutes to work that are short or long, you will find this bike to be a stylistic companion to whatever you are wearing. It truly is a bike that will get you around for whatever purpose you may have.

    Specifications from the Soma Website:

Our Review of the Yuba Mundo Electric Shimano Cargo Bike

Yuba declares that this electric Mundo bike is the “minivan of bicycles,” and it sure tries to live up to that moniker. We’ll start with the obvious: just as you probably don’t need a minivan if you don’t have kids, you’ll likely only want this bike if you have young children currently running around your home. However, it can still be used for the day-to-day errands with it’s vast cargo ability if that is what you are looking for.

    The Basics

The Mundo Cargo Bike has a chomoly steel frame, Magura disc brakes and sports the Shimano Steps E8000 electric motor for help with pedaling the added weight you’ll likely have on this bike with the cargo you intend to carry.

All this on an everyday e-bike would be enough to make the Mundo a quality bicycle to choose.  The frame provides comfort and strength. The brakes are among the better ones that you can find.  And the Shimano motor will give you the power to reach speeds of up to 20 mph and help you climb hills with relative ease.

Add on to this the standard double kickstand, LED lights, wheelskirts, and more, and you’ve got an e-bike worthy of you consideration for most situations

The Real Value of the Mundo

Once past the basics of this bike, you find the real value of this cargo carrying machine.  With a variety of options to add on to your Mundo, you’ll find that you’ll have your “minivan of bicycles” as proclaimed. The rear of the bike frame is ready for a number of the accessories, and these are all accessories centered around carrying more on your “minivan.”

Let’s start with gearing up for your kids:

    • First, you’ll want the bamboo utilitly deck that attaches to the back and becomes the base;
    • Then, add a “soft spot” for your child to sit on… or add two if you want to bring both kids with you;
    • Want something for your child to hold onto during the ride? Give them the “hold on bars” for the front rider, while the back rider can use the ring accessory, or drop the hold on bars and have a ring for both the front and back rider;
    • Provide your rider with something to put their feet on by attaching the “leg up” accessory bar, or better yet, get the bamboo boards for both riders to plant their feet on;
    • If you’re wanting to have a little extra security for the children so that you don’t have to worry about them falling off, you can add the monkey bars that are essentially guard rails around their body;

    The Yuba Monkey Bars

    • Planning on riding in the rain?  Get the pop top cover to give them shelter (requires the monkey bars attachment);
    • Finally, if your child is 6 or under, consider getting the Yepp Maxi EasyFit, which is more of a traditional child-carrying bike seat.

Not planning on hauling the kids around, but need to be able to carry other items?

    • The front-mounted “bread basket” has plenty of real estate for most items you’ll be carrying;

    The Bread Basket Accessory

    • Need to protect items in the bread basket from the weather? There’s a cover kit for that!
    • The waterproof Baguete rear mounts and is light and sturdy;
    • If you need to carry a bit more than the bread basket or Baguette can, the Go-Getter bag will do the trick;
    •  Finally, need to drag along another bike or for extra safety want to tow your child on his or her bike?  Get the towing tray combo and you can do just that.

All This, And It’s Also a Great Ride

With all the accessories that are available for the Mundo, it’s understandable to become a little skeptical about this bike and begin to think that it’s dedicated for hauling and therefore could possibly be a clunky ride.  Not so!

This is a sturdy, stable and smooth e-bike that will feel very safe to ride.  Commutes are a joy, and you’ll find the your children enjoying a day out as much as you are.  Rough streets, gravel paths, and hill are not a problem with the Mundo, even with the kids adding extra weight.

The only negative here is if you have restless kids (get the monkey bars if they are!).  If they are fidgeting on the back of the bike, you will feel it and will have to adjust as they do so.

    Final Thoughts

Do no hesitate on this one.  The Mundo Cargo Bike is a delight, and if you do a lot of commutes with children, picking up a few groceries, or carrying your work items to and from your office, or any other time you may want to haul items around town, this is the bike for you.

    Our Review: Trek Allant+ 8

    The Trek Allant+ 8 E-Bike

Let’s start with a couple caveats about the Trek Allant+ 8: it’s purpose is for everyday street riding and not much else, and it comes with a hefty price tag.

Having said that, Trek has a history of building quality mountain bikes (one of which is sitting in my garage right now), and the Allant+ 8 is a top-quality commuter bike if that is what you are looking for.  If all you are looking for is an E-powered bike to get around town with and aren’t planning on hitting the trails with it, this is the right bike.

    Some Features

Utilizing the COBI.Bike app, your smartphone becomes the computer to feed you information about your speed, how far you’ve traveled, what your altitude is, the weather, and much more. You can also start the bike right from the app.  And no need to worry about killing your phone battery – the case charges the phone while you bike around town.

Depending on how fast you are riding, how large you are, and how much pedaling your are providing, the range of the bike can be anywhere from about 64kms (40 miles) to 200kms (124 miles).  Bosch, the company that provides the pedal-assist system, has an online calculator to help you figure out your possible range.

Hidden within the frame itself, this bike’s removable battery doesn’t take away from the aesthetics of the bike.  He also has a handle for carrying and is removeable without any extra tools, and can be charged either on the bike or off.

    Our Thoughts

This is a smooth riding bike, both the ride itself and the feel of the bike when the drive train is in use including during gear changes and rides uphill.  The motor packs a powerful punch for an e-bike, with excellent torque and sensitivity.

If you are into much longer rides, we do recommend getting a second battery and keeping it with you. One battery, depending on how much effort you put in yourself with pedaling and how many hills you climb, will be good for the average user around town, but if you’re on a distance ride or expecting high winds to slow you down, get that extra battery.

We couldn’t help ourselves and had to try The Allant+ 8 off-road.  On a compact, light trail it did quite well, but I’ll say that you should avoid using it on anything more than that or a little bit of gravel.

Though this bike is slightly on the heavy side, this is to be expected in an e-bike, and you should have no plans to be anywhere where you need to carry your bike over rough terrain anyway.

Don’t expect to get your favorite color with the Allant+ 8 – at the time of writing, the only color to choose from was “matte metallic gunmetal,” which sounds pretty boring until you actually see the bike, but it definitely doesn’t shock you with pizzaz.

    Final Thoughts

If you are a big-time commuter with a lot of plans to use this instead of a vehicle for your day-to-day travels around town, you want to consider the Trek Allant+ 8 as a solid option for your choice of e-bike.  However, if the price tag is above your budget (which at $3,999 it certainly could be) or you are looking for something that can be both a commuter and an off-road companion, this may not be the bike for you.
